DFI CEO Fatma Remaihi Qatar Films being recognized by grand festivals

Doha Film Institute (DFI) CEO Fatma Al Remaihi pointed out that films produced in Qatar are being selected for grand festivals and are getting international recognition and acknowledgment.
“We are very proud of our filmmakers, for not taking films just as a hobby, they are taking it very seriously. It’s really very rewarding to see how all the hard work that has been done is paying out and the grounds being built over the years, step by step, showing this result”, noted Al Remaihi for Press Launch Qatar creates on Sunday at M7 in Musheireb Downtown Doha. She emphasized that films that are supported by the institute have gained international praise and accolades. Doha Film Institute CEO is optimistic about the future. She expects further progress and more quality content. She also revealed that filmmakers who completed their short films are now working on their full-length movies, which she sees as the next step in the industry.

Al Remaihi singled out Sudanese filmmaker Suzannah Mirghani who won the ArteKino Award at the prestigious Cannes Film Festival’s Atelier. Her DFI-supported film carries the title “Cotton Queen”, and CEO proudly said that it is their pleasure to be behind all of these filmmakers.
“Now we want to focus on the future films that are being recorded and the series that we have. DFI opened its door for the series and web series, with all of these being the new generation; it has a lot of influence on communities and audiences and this is where we want to put our trend”, she explained. Considering that, currently, short films are only being screened at film festivals, she expressed her hopes for movies to be shown in commercial cinemas. In her opinion, the influence of the film and the message it sends are crucial.

“Influencing is very important because an image and reputation of the Middle East, the Islamic world, the Arab, has been damaged over the years, and we have to do a lot to fix that as that is not the truth; we have to show the truth.”

An excellent opportunity for the Qatar Filmmaking Industry to get a high number of watchers will be during FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022. since there will be a screen placed during the matches.
“There is going to be a screening of many movies that have been displayed before, especially the local films. We will celebrate them in this building – M7 in Musheireb Downtown Doha -, and we’ll see many more new movies.”
