The international partners for the major project led by the Qatari company have been selected. The project started in 2019 and it was described as a competitive process.
Qatari state-owned gas company’s CEO Saad Sherida Al-Kaabi stated on Sunday that Total Energies is the first partner selected by the Qatar Energy company for the North Field East (NFE) Project. The agreement was made in Doha, between Al-Kaabi, the French company’s Chairman, and CEO Patrick Jean Pouyanné.
Al Kaabi reported for the press “We look forward to working closely with Total Energies, who is a long-term strategic partner that we have always trusted to support the efficient and safe delivery of our projects”. The NFE makes one of the two parts of the $28.75 billion North Field liquified natural gas (LNG) expansion project that is set to boost Qatar’s production from 77 to 110 million tone’s per annum. North Field South (NFS) makes the second part of the project which will increase production capacity from 110 to 126 million tone’s per annum.
According to the agreement, Total Energies will be a new joint venture company (JV), taking 25% interest, while the Qatari company holds 75%.
Al-Kaabi noted, “The North Field East project is an iconic achievement that will not only ensure the optimal utilization of Qatar’s natural resources but will also provide the world with the cleaner and more reliable energy it needs”.
The NFE will count four huge LNG trains with a capacity of 32 million tone’s per annum.
Pouyanné stated, “Total Energies was present at the beginning of its LNG industry in Qatar some 30 years ago through its interest in Qatar gas 1, and then Qatar gas 2 in 2005”. Such a long collaboration makes it a trusted partner and all parties are hoping for long and successful cooperation.
