Qatar Museum’s Teen Volunteering Programme is offering the opportunity for the teens to work and learn guided by the museum staff. They will gain important life skills, and also strengthen their independence and self-confidence. There is a big variety of opportunities, so they can choose based on their interests and passions.
Youth can volunteer as visitor guides, museum guides, information desk officers, monitoring and evaluation assistants, providers of programming and visitor services or support for events, so everything from content creation to social media to hosting guests and leading tourists at museums and public art installations across Doha. They can choose among the National Museum of Qatar; 3-2-1 Qatar Olympic Sports Museum; Museum of Islamic Art & MIA Park; Mathaf – Arab Museum of Modern Art; Fire station: Artist in Residence; DADU, Children’s Museum of Qatar; Liwan Design Studios and Labs; M7 Creative Hub and Learning & Outreach – Exhibitions, and volunteer at one or more. During the Qatar Creates – Teen Council Expo held on Friday at Khalifa International Stadium, which was visited by hundreds of young people, and whose presence she acknowledged, H E Sheikha Al Mayassa bint Hamad bin Khalifa Al Thani, who is a Doha: Qatar Museums (QM) Chairperson, explained the Council as a way to give young people the opportunity to be creative and make their ideas come true. “Our new initiative, Qatar Creates – Teen Council, will bring together young people who want to take part in Qatar’s cultural life by engaging in Qatar Museum’s future endeavors.
It will create a place for youth to gather, collaborate and plan events for teenagers from all over the country”, she said, and added:
“We look forward to welcoming you, so I encourage you to sign up! You will have a dedicated space at the newly-renovated Museum of Islamic Art as well as spaces in each of our museums and cultural institutions. Over time, you will be working with local stakeholders to support these initiatives”.
Sheikha Al Mayassa, says that young people are their future and ambassadors for Qatar, and that they have a significant role in nation-building. “You are all representations of the world, you come from different parts of the world, you speak different languages, have local roots in Qatar, yet a global outlook to the world, you are the perfect ambassadors for Qatar and we are here to help you”, she said. Now with the FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022 happening, volunteering is another way for young to “be ambassador for Qatar’s culture offerings during this exciting time”, she said.
She also talked about another topic she is passionate about: the protection of the planet.
